2nd Magistrate Recuses In Douglas DeFreitas Court Matter

A second Magistrate has recused themselves in the case against Nice Radio Proprietor Douglas Defreitas.

Magistrate Zoila Ellis-Browne recused herself from the case in which De Freitas is charged with making statements likely to cause public fear and alarm.

When the case came up for hearing on the 29th of August, Magistrate Bertie Pompey recused himself in the matter as well.

Douglas De Freitas political activist was slapped with 10 additional charges and appeared in courts earlier this morning.

The 10 charges were added to De Freitas list of charges stemming back to statements he made regarding elections 2015.

According to summons received, De Freitas made statements contrary to Section 64 (1) of the Criminal Code, Chapter 171 of the Revised Edition of the Laws of St Vincent and the Grenadines, 2009.

The matter has been transferred to the Biabou Magistrate’s Court, for hearing on September 30th, 2016.
