Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Jerrol Thompson while speaking on WEFM’s “Wake Up” morning program on Wednesday, September 23rd, discussed how the Aedes Aegypti mosquito is changing and adapting to breed in even more environments.
“The Aedes Aegypti mosquito is changing, it has changed. It’s now a smaller, seemingly more aggressive mosquito, and it moved from laying eggs and from breeding in strictly clean water alone, it’s now moved to two other important sites, your dirty septic tank, as well as, to small streams and so forth, where there is any water.”
Dr. Thompson said that this year’s prolonged drought conditions have made the situation even worse.
“What made it worse in this year is that we had a prolonged drought, where there was very little water about, and that has facilitated this mosquito moving.”
