- PM Davis: Venezuela must respect Guyana’s sovereignty.
The Bahamas has voiced solidarity with Guyana in its territorial dispute with Venezuela.
“I want to state unequivocally that the Commonwealth of The Bahamas supports the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, as well as its sovereignty and territorial integrity, as established by the 1899 arbitral ruling. Guyana’s territory has been defined by these limits since its independence in 1966.
I am disappointed that, after all that CARICOM has done to safeguard the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela’s sovereignty and territorial integrity throughout a difficult economic and political moment in its history, Venezuela should now seek to acquire land in a CARICOM state.
The Bahamas requests that Venezuela respect the established borders and follow the International Court of Justice’s verdict of 1 December 2023, as well as refrain from any measures that will disrupt these current borders”.
