Barbadians urged to practise good hygiene, as respiratory illnesses cause deaths

Officials in Barbados are warning the public about a recent increase in respiratory infections that has tragically led to two fatalities this month.

Data from the Ministry of Health and Wellness indicates that these illnesses are primarily affecting adults, with several individuals requiring hospitalization during the first half of December.

To combat the spread, authorities are advocating for strict hygiene measures, such as frequent handwashing and proper cough etiquette.

Citizens are particularly encouraged to exercise caution when visiting vulnerable populations, including the elderly, to prevent further transmission.

Although health experts note that this seasonal rise is typical, the current mortality rate has prompted a heightened call for community vigilance.
