Byrea Tunnel Blocked As Heavy Rains Continue To Affect SVG

As heavy rains continue to affect SVG due to a tropical wave interacting with an Upper-Level Trough, SVG has been placed under a flood warning until 6 am on Friday 30th.

Reports are that the Byrea tunnel is blocked to vehicular traffic due to a landslide in that area.

The met office says moderate to heavy showers, periods of rain and thunderstorms will continue across St. Vincent and the Grenadines due to the presence of the weather systems.

As of 8 pm, the National Hurricane Center has upgraded the area of disturbed weather to a 70 per cent chance for development over the next five days.

During the last 12 hours, rainfall accumulations of approximately 2 inches have been recorded by some stations across the island and there have been reports of flash-flooding.

The state utility company is also reporting outages in Cane Hall, Belair and surrounding communities and Georgetown to Fancy.
