The CIBC First Caribbean Walk for the Cure was a resounding success, after being sold out, thanks to the SVG communities, corporate SVG and Government entities working together with CIBC FirstCaribbean to ensure that this year marked the biggest Walk for the Cure.
“There is power in teamwork. The walk, which was officially sold out, was due in part to the efforts of our people in SVG as well as corporate SVG and Government coming together to make this one of the biggest walks year over year,” said Country Head of CIBC FirstCaribbean Shelly Ann Samuel.
“We secured quite a number of new sponsors and reached out to as many corporate entities as possible. We are particularly grateful for the joint efforts by The Ministry of Health, SVG Medical Association, Leo Club of St Vincent and Jump Life all of which made certain that there would be no conflicts on walk days and that all fundraising activities were for this one cause – to fight cancer,” she added.
Samuel pointed out other special individuals who gave of their time and efforts to the cause, including pensioner Mrs. Theresa Searles who assisted the CIBC FirstCaribbean team from beginning, and the survivors of cancer who told their stories to inform and educate via videos on Instagram. She also thanked the local entertainment fraternity and celebrities for their support.
The funds generated from the walk, which is held in partnership with cancer care organisations in each territory, goes primarily to assist with the purchase and maintenance of equipment used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. It is also used to provide assistance, care and counselling to patients and their families as well to raise awareness, and stress the importance of early detection, through education campaigns across the region.
