Eldon Stay from the community of Fancy and working as a Security Guard on the Grenadines Island of Canouan was on Wednesday, May 3rd arrested and charged by the Police for possession of 658gms of cannabis with intent to supply to another.
Stay was intercepted with the drug at the Grenadines Wharf by Police who were at the time conducting security checks on persons travelling to the Grenadines Islands. The marijuana was discovered in a bag that the defendant had in his possession.
Stay was escorted to the Serious Offences Court on Thursday, May 4th facing the charges to which he entered a guilty plea. When asked what he had to say, in mitigation he apologised to the Court and informed the Chief Magistrate that it was his first offence and promised never to appear before her again.
A fine of $900.00 was imposed upon him, $500.00 of which was to be paid forthwith in default a 2 months jail term will be imposed. The balance of $400.00 is to be paid by June 1st, 2017 failing which an additional 2 months will be imposed.
The Chief Magistrate commended the Police Officers for their good work in detecting the drugs on persons travelling to the Grenadines Islands.
