Prime Minister, The Honourable Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has announced that the Modern Medical Complex in Georgetown is expected to be completed soon.
Dr. Gonsalves made this announcement on Thursday April 13th, 2017 while addressing the handing over ceremony of medical equipment to the Georgetown Hospital.
“The facilities in all these areas, despite limitations, have improved markedly”. Here at Georgetown, you have a wider range of services being offered”, Gonsalves said.
The Prime Minister noted that the Georgetown Hospital is a Smart Hospital, the first Smart Hospital in the OECS with a Modern Medical Complex.
The Prime Minister noted that he released a million dollars a week ago for continued financing of the Modern Medical Complex. He said bureaus has caused some delay in the transaction
“This morning, on my way up I was trying to get the Accountant General to find out what happened to the million dollars which I released a week ago in relation to continuing the financing of the completion of the Modern Medical Complex”, Gonsalves said.
The Prime Minister said bureaucracy has caused a delay however by just after the first half of this year things should be in a place to have the staff recruited and put things in place because he has it in the budget and the resources are there.
The Georgetown Modern Medical Complex is being constructed at a cost of over $20 million EC by the Governments of Cuba and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The Complex will be made up of a Surgical, Dialysis and Outpatient Units. Services that will be provided upon completion include: Renal Dialysis for adults and children, Intensive Care, Endoscopy, Ophthalmology, Radiology, Ultrasound, Laboratory and General Medical and Surgical Consultations.
