Ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) on Thursday arrested two men in connection with the discovery of $13.3 million worth of cocaine concealed in Milex milk packages at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).
CANU, in a press release, revealed that 52-year-old Cranson Carlson Henry was arrested as he attempted to board a plane to the United States of America.
He gave his addresses as Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara and Rockaway Avenue 11212 Brooklyn, New York, USA.
Henry was questioned during which he admitted to having knowledge of the narcotics in his luggage, CANU said.
He was escorted to CANU Headquarters where the suspected narcotics tested positive for cocaine. CANU said the narcotics was weighed and amounted to 13.4 lbs, with a street value of $13.3M.
According to CANU, further investigation was conducted which led to the arrest of 44-year-old singer, Mark Ferdinand of Samaria Dam, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara.
Ferdinand was previously arrested in the US in 2015 for drug trafficking, CANU said.
“Berkeley Ferdinand, the brother of Mark Ferdinand was previously charged by CANU in 2016 for trafficking in narcotics and was sentenced to 3 years in prison,” the agency added.
