Burglaries on the rise in Montserrat
The Royal Montserrat Police Service has issued a warning to island residents and business owners about an increase in burglaries during the past two months.
Police reported responding to five incidents in the Brades region involving the theft of large sums of money and alcohol from businesses.
During the lengthy power outage in the Sweeneys neighbourhood, the management of a well-known establishment stated that his shop was burglarized and a considerable amount of cash and other valuables were stolen.
“Residents and business owners are recommended to maintain vigilance and avoid holding significant sums of cash on their premises. People are being advised to invest in CCTV systems to help secure their properties, according to a police statement.
“Despite the increase in criminal activity, business owners and residents can rest comfortable that officers are working with community members to ensure their safety, and more importantly, that officers are following through on all leads to catch the perpetrator(s).”
Anyone who observes suspicious behaviour or has information about the offences can contact their local police station or at 1-1-664-491-2555 ext. 7928.
