The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment has said it is aware of social media reports which suggest that there are contaminated paracetamol tablets in general circulation, however these reports are false.
A release issued yesterday by the Ministry categorically states that there is no evidence to support those claims.
The Ministry noted that it remains safe for persons to use paracetamol tablets.
Paracetamol (acetaminophen) is a pain reliever and a fever reducer. The exact mechanism of action of is not known.
Paracetamol is used to treat many conditions such as headache, muscle aches, arthritis, backache, toothaches, colds, and fevers.
It relieves pain in mild arthritis but has no effect on the underlying inflammation and swelling of the joint.
