PM Gives Preliminary Damage Assessment On Storm

There has not yet been a dollar figure placed on the amount of damage caused by Tropical Storm Matthew – Now Hurricane Matthew last Wednesday, September 28.

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said at a news conference this morning that the Ministry of Transport and Works and the Ministry of Housing was still quantifying the damage.

Giving a preliminary update the Prime Minister said three homes were destroyed; 102 were damaged due to flooding and landslides; 25 retaining walls either collapsed or were damaged and four public buildings were flooded.

The National emergency Management Organization (NEMO) was making alternative arrangements for four families who the Prime Minister said have emergency housing needs.
