During his first meeting with SVG PM Godwin Friday, Prime Minister Mitchell emphasized the vital importance of such interactions for fostering collaboration and friendship among Caribbean and OECS countries. He highlighted several key reasons for this importance:

He noted that as leaders of island developing states, they face similar geopolitical, climate, and economic challenges, all while maintaining a primary commitment to serving their people.

Specifically, regarding St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada, Mitchell stated they are as close as neighbors can be, sharing a unique history, culture, and marine space.

He argued that while technology is useful, real trust and camaraderie are built through personal interaction and by working through difficulties and even disagreements together.

Mitchell expressed that these meetings allow leaders to share experiences in governance and prepare for future challenges.

Friday reinforced these sentiments, noting that the relationship between the two nations transcends national boundaries and that he and Mitchell share a commitment to putting the interests of their people ahead of everything else.

Mitchell views these face-to-face meetings as the “glue” that holds the regional partnership together; while they can talk over the phone, the real strength of their alliance is forged by standing in the same room and facing the same storms together.
