ROAD TENNIS TO BECOME A MAJOR TOURNAMENT IN SVG

The Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture, in conjunction with the Professional Road Tennis Association (PRTA) of Barbados will be seeking to make Road Tennis a major Tournament here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The Ministry and the PRTA are currently hosting the inaugural Nine Mornings Road Tennis Blast in various communities throughout the country.

The activity began on December 16 and concludes tomorrow December 23, 2016.

President of the Professional Road Tennis Association of Barbados, Dale Clarke, speaking at a press conference on Tuesday at the National Insurance Services (NIS) Conference Room, urged persons interested in the sport to take it seriously, and noted that plans are being made to host a Road Tennis Tournament for Primary Schools here in 2017.

Meanwhile, Minister of Tourism Sports and Culture, Cecil McKie noted that sports will be pivotal to the development of the people of this country, and thanked the PRTA for partnering with his Ministry in hosting this tournament.

Minister McKie said the response from member of the various communities to Road Tennis has been positive so far, and added that this tournament is going to add variety to the annual Nine Morning activities.

The men and women are competing for a grand prize of one thousand US dollars each, while the male youth (under 18) are competing for some attractive prizes, such as tablets and cellular phones.
