St Kitts (SKN) to accept third country Deportees from U.S
Prime Minister Dr. Terence Drew recently announced that St. Kitts and Nevis has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the United States regarding the repatriation of certain migrants.
This strategic agreement allows for the transfer of CARICOM nationals who are currently in America, though it specifically excludes individuals from Haiti or those with violent and sexual criminal records.
Under the terms of the deal, the federation maintains the discretionary power to accept or reject specific transfers based on their own internal assessments.
The United States government will be responsible for the financial costs associated with these logistics and implementation.
This move aligns with broader regional shifts in immigration policy following the recent change in U.S. presidential administration and its stricter enforcement of deportation laws.
Drew emphasized that this collaboration preserves national security while strengthening bilateral relations and upholding Caribbean community principles.
