The Enhancing Household Food and Nutrition Security through Home Gardening Project concluded at the Methodist Church Hall after a duration of twelve (12) months. Approximately sixty-eight (68) participants benefited from a series of consultations and training sessions over the period.
President of the Association of Evangelical Churches, Dr. Reynold Murray recounted the beginning of the Association in 1979, the year of the eruption of the La Soufriere volcano. He reaffirmed the commitment of the association to continue to coordinate Christian Relief responses to natural disasters.
Deputy Chief Agricultural Officer, Colville King referenced the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as the underpinning motivation for the Ministry of Agriculture’s partnership in projects of this nature. He expressed thanks to all the actors who facilitated the success of the project and extended best wishes to the beneficiaries. He proposed that they pursue the formation of a Home Gardeners Network for sustainability.
Senior Technical Officer, Rural Transformation Unit, Currel Thompson – Fergus provided a Project Review detailing the strategies put in place to assess and select suitably qualified Homeowners as the beneficiaries of the project. She revealed the method which will be used by the Rural Transformation Unit for continued monitoring and evaluation.
Chief Agricultural Officer, Renato Gumbs concluded the closing ceremony by acknowledging and appreciating the input of all the participants who contributed to the success of the project including: The Rural Transformation Unit, officers of the Extension and Advisory Services and the Homeowners, who are the key stakeholders.
Beneficiaries were given the opportunity to share how the project impacted their lives and also received equipment to assist in ensuring the longevity of their newly established home gardens.
