Prime Minister Godwin Friday says that completing the new Acute hospital at Arnos Vale is a top priority for his administration, specifically placing its importance above constructing “monuments” like a new parliament building.
Speaking on Hot97, Friday said that ensuring citizens have access to “basic proper health care” is an urgent necessity that must be addressed ahead of other large-scale construction projects.
Friday emphasized that building a new facility is only part of the solution; it must be paired with a National Health Insurance plan.
This is intended to ensure that if someone needs a medical test in a timely manner, they do not have to “raise money… on the street” or wait until it is too late.
Along with the new hospital, Friday wants to focus on preventive medicine to keep the population healthier and reduce the need for more expensive medical procedures in the future.
Friday said his aim is to “put the money where the pain is,” focusing limited resources on public health rather than government infrastructure.
