The Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Workshop was visited by Ambassador Fiona Fan and Mrs. Donna Bascombe, Director of Health SVG, on April 17, 2024, with the goal of enhancing the pre-hospital response capabilities of Vincentian first responders, such as the medical staff from healthcare facilities, police officers, and central government employees.
Participants watched as seed teachers with training from Taiwan gave demonstrations instructing the trainees on how to conduct cardiopulmonary resuscitation, monitor vital signs, and properly lift patients to the ambulance.
In her interactions with the participants, Ambassador Fan discussed the importance of developing emergency response capabilities while dealing with a major public health emergency, given that Taiwan was recently struck by a powerful earthquake earlier this month. She also expressed her desire for further knowledge and experience sharing in the future.
To date, 16 seed teachers have received pre-hospital emergency care, emergency care, and infection control training in Taiwan as part of the Public Health Emergency Response System Enhancement Project in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Since coming back home, they have given over 120 individuals training seminars.
