As the residents of Owia and Sandy Bay continue to recover from the trough systems that damaged several homes and the road network, the spirit of giving over the Christmas season continued unabated.
On Christmas Eve Day, the group of We FM Yuletiders headed by Donnie Collins and Frank Da. Silva held a Christmas Party where they fed and presented toys to over eighty children and their parents.
This visit was the second trip made by this group who previously responded with a presentation of food items just days after the residents were dislocated.
Donnie Collins, seemingly contented with his group’s performance commented: “I couldn’t have spent my Christmas Eve any better than to be at the Sandy Bay Secondary School serving these kids and to see the joy on their faces.”
A wheelchair presentation was also made to a resident by Garnes Byron from New York. On Boxing Day, it was the turn of the East St George Yuletiders headed by Michelle Mc Intosh Julia Mc Intosh and Rachelle Grellmore.
This group also consisted of members of the private sector, Ezzie Roberts and Teddy James of Corea’s.
Rondy Luta Mc Intosh and Rodney Small from the entertainment class were also present. This visit started in Upper Village Owia where over sixty villagers received items from clothing to food and toys.
The posse then went to the main village and treated another seventy plus villagers with similar goodies.
Shamilia Hoyte, an Owia villager, though not directly affected by the trough, commended the efforts by the group and said: “it’s a good thing to give up your Boxing Day enjoyment and coming to Owia to spend time with us, Thank you.”
The final stop in Sandy Bay also saw dozens of residents receiving items and gifts that brought joy to their Christmas.
Special mention must also be made of Sharon Jones, Michelle Doyle and Ice Kydd Knights for their valiant efforts.
