Some 1,000 Tourism Jobs Available Soon, says Minister James
According to Honourable Carlos James, Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Sustainable Development, and Culture, over a thousand positions will become available in the tourism and hospitality services sector within the next few months.
Minister James made this announcement during a news conference on Monday, September 18th, 2023, at the National Insurance Services (NIS) Conference Room.
According to the tourism minister, various stakeholders, including MSC Cruise, Sandals Resorts, Soho House, and Canouan Estates, are collaborating with the government to hire Vincentians.
“We are continuously providing opportunities for employment and training in the tourism and hospitality services sector for all Vincentians,” Minister James stated. According to the tourism minister, developing supply platforms for local products and services requires strengthening links between tourism and other sectors.
Sandals will also have a job fair from September 26th to September 29th, with the potential to hire 800 people.
MSC Cruise Line will collaborate with the Ministry of Tourism to recruit up to 100 qualified individuals in the tourism and hospitality services sectors during a Job Fair at the Cruise Ship Terminal from October 7th to 9th. Mandarin Oriental and Soho House would also hire local security guards, drivers, and hospitality staff.
The tourist industry is a significant contribution to our Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In a typical year, tourism receipts exceed 25% of GDP and account for about 20% of formal sector jobs in the country.
