The Grenadine island of Bequia and the North Windward community of Sandy Bay bore the brunt of Tropical Storm Harvey’s passage across the multi island state on Friday.
According to the head of the National Emergency Management Organisation Michelle Forbes, first reports after the storm indicates difficulty in getting into Paget Farm, while there were damages to homes and business in Port Elizabeth the main commercial area on Bequia.
Forbes also reported via radio on Friday evening that several areas have also been flooded including Fancy, Owia, Sandy Bay, Mustique, Edinboro, and Calliqua.
The head of NEMO also indicated that due to flooding two houses sustained damages in the town of Calliaqua.
The passage of Harvey has left 15 persons in emergency shelters across the country.
Forbes also reported that in the southern town of Calliaqua and the communities of Belmont and Edinboro preliminary assessment of damages has already started.
There have been reports of landslides in South Wood, Carapan, and Belmont, where crews from BRAGSA have begun clearing and will continue throughout the weekend.
Damage assessment on the island of Bequia and in the community of North Windward will begin on Saturday 19th August 2017.
Tropical Storm Harvey made its passage through Barbados and the Southern Windward Islands on Friday 18th August 2017.
