The recently concluded SVG Gallagher National Swim Championship which took place on the 22nd to the 26th September 2021 at the Shrewsbury Aquatic Centre at Rathomill saw impressive performances from members of the Blue Marlins Swim Club.
The swimmers competed in a number of events, the Breast, Back, Butterfly and Freestyle as well. A number of records were broken at the meet and Blue Marlins was not to be left out.
Caghry Williams, swimming in the eight (8) and under male category was outstanding. He broke a total of six (6) records which included four (4) National and two (2) O.E.C.S records. These records were broken in the 25m Back, 25m, 50m, and 100m Breast, 25m Butterfly and the 100m IM. He was also the overall Individual Champion in this category and Sprint Challenge Champion as well. He won a total of nine (9) gold medals.
Tayeah St. Hillaire swimming in the 9 to10 female category also put in an excellent performance. She broke the record in the 100m Butterfly and made the finals of the girls 9 to 10 Sprint Challenge as well. A spectacular performance by Belle Adams swimming in the eight (8) and under female category saw her being awarded the overall Individual and Sprint Challenge champion in that category.
A number of other swimmers such as Skylar Byron, Alyssa Davis, Rhonyah Jack, Rolene Sam, Jod Baker, Frencille Davis, Jadon Hamilton, Yohan Haynes, Tristan Mark, Tru Matthias, Malique Mayers, Darryl Pope and Aedryon Sam did personal best times and were able to secure medals in a number of these events. The younger swimmers showed great promise as well, Four year old Raya Adams made her mark on the sport, captivating the attention of the spectators in the process when she completed the 25m backstroke.
Coach Tamarah St. Hillaire of Blue Marlins Swim Club extended congratulations to all the swimmers and stated that they did an amazing job because they worked really hard. She further said that they all gave up other things and trained through pain and exhaustion in order to achieve excellence.
She encourages them to continue to swim with determination and continue to trust their hard work. Coach Rickydene Alexander was also elated at the success of the team. Both coaches continue to work hard in ensuring the continued progress in the technique and endurance training of the team.
