SVG Records 5 COVID-19 Deaths In 24 hours, death toll now 26

St Vincent and the Grenadines recorded five COVID-19 deaths over the last  24 hours according to data from the Ministry of Health.

Five persons died during the period September 30th, 2021, to October 1st, 2021, of COVID-19 pneumonia. One patient is a 44-year-old male who tested positive for COVID-19 on September 28th, 2021. The second patient is a 46-year-old male who tested positive for COVID-19 on September 19th, 2021.

The third patient is an 87-year-old male who tested positive for COVID-19 on September 27th, 2021. Another patient is a 50-year-old male who tested positive for COVID-19 on September 28th, 2021, and the fifth patient is a 27-year-old female who tested positive for COVID-19 on September 29th, 2021.

All patients were admitted to the COVID-19 ward at Milton Cato Memorial Hospital. All patients were unvaccinated. Their deaths bring the death toll from COVID-19 to twenty-six (26).

There are currently twenty-two (22) patients admitted for COVID-19 at the Argyle Isolation Facility. Twenty-one (21) are unvaccinated and one (1) patient is fully vaccinated. Twenty-nine patients are admitted to the COVID-19 wards at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital. Twenty-six are unvaccinated, two (2) patients are partially vaccinated, and one (1) patient is fully vaccinated.

Fifty-five (55) new COVID-19 positive cases were reported from three hundred and fifty-six (356) samples processed on Wednesday September 29th, 2021, resulting in a positivity of 15.4%. Four cases were detected on exit screening. All other cases are contacts of known positive cases and persons seeking care. Forty-four (44) rapid antigen positive results were reported for Wednesday September 29th, 2021.

Eight (8) new recoveries were noted over the reporting period. One thousand and ninety-three (1093) cases are currently active and twenty-six (26) persons with COVID-19 have died. Three thousand, five hundred and sixty-three (3563) cases of COVID-19 and two thousand, four hundred and forty-four (2444) recoveries have been recorded in St. Vincent and the Grenadines since March 2020.

In view of the confirmed presence of the Delta, Mu and Gamma variants in the community and the significant increase in the number of new infections, transmission, severe COVID-19 disease and deaths, strict enforcement and compliance with all protocols and recommendations by everyone is strongly recommended. The correct and consistent use of masks, avoidance of crowds, physical distancing, proper hand sanitizing and immunization with available vaccines have all been proven to significantly reduce the risk of being infected, getting sick and or dying from the COVID-19 virus.
