Take the vaccine by October 15 or resign

October 15 is the deadline for chairpersons and members of boards of all statutory enterprises, state-owned companies, and public enterprises to take the COVID-19 vaccine or demit office.

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves made the announcement during a call to the Issues at Hand program on We Fm.

The announcement would be the most forceful yet from the government since the start of the pandemic.

“I drafted a letter, a memorandum to the chairpersons and members of the boards of all statutory enterprises and state-owned companies and public enterprises generally that they have also been given a choice to be vaccinated by October 15 or demit their offices, to take their first vaccine by then, if they haven’t taken it yet, I know many of them have”. Gonsalves said.

“I don’t see how we could have the Cabinet vaccinated, and we are asking frontline workers, for instance in the port and airports to be vaccinated, and then the people who are running these statutory enterprises or public companies are not vaccinated, so they also have to lead by example in that regard”. He said.

As of Wednesday, September 29, nine hundred and eighty-four cases are currently active, and nineteen (19) persons with COVID-19 have died.

(3423) cases of COVID-19 and (2420) recoveries have been recorded in St. Vincent and the Grenadines since March 2020.
