Government operations and public service duties remain active today despite weather challenges, following an official clarification addressing widespread misinformation circulating on social media.
Senator Lavern King confirmed that public servants are expected to report for duty as normal, following direct consultations with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Public Service Sinclair Leacock and the Prime Minister.
Addressing the public via a radio broadcast, the Minister outlined the operational status across sectors:
Public Sector: Public servants are required to report to work as scheduled.
Private Sector: Private business employees should follow operational directives issued directly by their respective employers.
Road Safety: Citizens and motorists traveling to work are urged to exercise extreme caution and heightened vigilance on the roads.
The official statement directly addressed a fraudulent notification that had been widely shared online claiming nationwide work cancellations.
The Minister clarified that the fake notice was unauthorized and reiterated that the Ministry of Education’s school closure order was the only official government cancellation notice issued. The school closure was implemented out of an abundance of caution to protect students and ensure school facilities remain accessible if needed as emergency shelters.
In addition to confirming work schedules, the Minister noted that the Prime Minister is on the ground alongside response teams conducting physical assessments of impacted areas across the island. Official channels will issue further updates should weather conditions require any changes to public service operations during the day.
