The Zero Hunger Trust Funded was established as part of the UN sustainable development goals, in 2015, 192 countries worldwide signed on to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and ending hunger is the second of those goals.

Executive Director of the Fund Laura Anthony Browne told News784 she was pleased when the Government of SVG decide to get on board in the fight against eradicating hunger.

News784 was further told that there are about 3000 persons in the state who are susceptible to hunger, and thus different ways are being tried to see how this situation can be addressed.

The Zero Hunger Trust fund currently has three programs ongoing.

  • Adopt A Classroom: where 295 students are being provided with everything necessary for their education and living.
  • Elderly Assistance Program: 85 years and over being given a food basket four times per year to help with their nutrition.
  • Training: for youths in the area of Information Technology.
Executive Director of ZHTF Laura Anthony Browne

Anthony-Browne told News784 once individuals are trained in the program, the fund would seek to attach these young persons mainly to the private sector for six months.

“Also if you have a skill that we have trained you in such as in sewing, we want to be able to give you a kit, a machine whatever you need in that area so that you can become independent, so we are training and setting people to work”.

Anthony-Browne further told News784 she believes before 2030 they would be able to eradicate hunger from the face of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

“We are not only giving people food, but we are putting them in a position where they can provide for themselves, by giving them skills and education they would be empowered to earn their living”.
