- 2023 Taiwan Bursary Scholarship award
Ambassador Fiona Huei Chun Fan of the Republic of China (Taiwan) together with Minister of Education and National Reconciliation Hon. Curtis King and Chief Education Officer Mrs. Kay Martin-Jack handed over the first batch of Taiwan Bursary Scholarship 2023 to Vincentian students during a ceremony at the Community College on 11 December, 2023.
Minister of Education Hon. Curtis King expressed his gratitude to Taiwan, especially on the continuous support from Taiwan government on education cooperation with SVG, including the MOFA Taiwan Scholarship, ICDF Scholarship and Bursary scholarship, with the Bursary touching upon primary, secondary and Tertiary school students.
Ambassador Fiona Fan first extends her warmest congratulations to recipients of the scholarship, pointed out that this year, 524 Vincentian students from primary, secondary and tertiary education and technical institutions are beneficiaries of the scholarship, among whom 320,600 EC$ allocation will be divided. Since the start of the bursary in 1998, over 11 thousands of Vincentian students have benefited from it.
With the help of the Ministry of Education, students from the various divisions and schools were selected and the scholarships were awarded to those who need to continue their studies at various levels. Taiwan is pleased to join in broadening the opportunities of the children and young adults in this nation. Together, we recognize that emphasis on education enriches both personal betterment and economic development on a national level.
Since Taiwan and SVG established diplomatic relations from 1981, both governments have launched and implemented many cooperation projects in various areas. Both governments value the importance of education and more and more resources have been distributed in the field of education.
We are pleased to learn Taiwan scholarship recipients reach the record high of 33 tihs year. Over the past two decades, there have been 269 talented Vincentian youths obtaining their degrees in Taiwanese universities and come back to serve this country every year in fields of IT, medicine, agriculture, energy, tourism, business and so on. In this regard, Taiwan will continue to work unwaveringly to support SVG’s education revolution.
We congratulate each scholarship recipient and encourage all to take advantage of the education afforded to you with the help of the bursary and work hard in your studies because education changes lives. We do believe that one day you will contribute your knowledge to your country and the whole world as well.
Ambassador Fan Huijun donated scholarships to hundreds of Saint Vincent students on behalf of the Chinese government at Saint Vincent Community College at noon on December 11. Kay Martin-Jack and others attended the donation ceremony and participated in the awards on behalf of the Holy Kingdom government.
Minister of Education Jin En also expressed his gratitude to the Taiwanese government of the Republic of China for its assistance to the Holy Nation over the years. In addition to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Taiwan Scholarship and the CCICED Scholarship, which can provide young people with the opportunity to pursue higher degrees, the Yucai Scholarship directly assists students from primary school, middle school to Community college students.
Ambassador Fan said that Taiwan has launched a talent cultivation scholarship program in 1998, with more than 500 students benefiting from it every year. By the end of this year, the number of scholarship recipients from the Holy Nation will total 11,000. This year, 524 students have benefited, receiving a total of EC$320,000 (US$120,000) in scholarships. With the assistance of the Ministry of Education of the Holy Kingdom, the Embassy is honored to participate in this beneficial event for local youth. Taiwanese society, like St. Vincent society, attaches great importance to education and believes that high-quality education can help personal careers and national development. It now supports the younger generation to pursue educational opportunities and learn necessary knowledge and skills, and the country and society will benefit from it in the future.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Saint Petersburg in 1981, there have been many cooperation plans in various fields, especially in the field of education. This year, 33 St. Vincent students received scholarships to study in Taiwan. In the past 20 years, 269 St. Vincent youths have gone to Taiwan to study and learn computer, medicine, agriculture, energy, tourism, business and other knowledge. Taiwan will continue to cooperate with Holy Kingdom to promote Holy Kingdom education reform.
