The Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Sustainable Development has joined forces with the Solid Waste Management Unit, the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, the Public Health Department, SVG Town Board and the Carnival Development Corporation to issue a strong national appeal to Vincentians and visitors to to keep the island that we all love clean and protect the very environment that supports our livelihoods and sustains our way of life.
The initiative is supported by the Global Environment Facility and National Ozone Unit projects.
Recognising that cleanliness is a shared responsibility, the agencies are encouraging the public to ‘Love SVG’ by practising proper waste management, especially during the height of Vincy Mas activities when foot traffic and festivities increase across the capital.
As part of this collaborative effort, eighty-five (85) waste bins have been distributed to street vendors, event coordinators and line ministries. These bins will be placed at strategic points throughout Kingstown and Arnos Vale, areas that experience high volumes of patrons during the carnival season.
The initiative aims to reduce littering, improve waste disposal, and maintain a welcoming environment for locals and tourists alike.
In support of this initiative, the partnering entities will also intensify public awareness efforts by utilizing a range of traditional and digital media platforms.
Through targeted advertisements, public service announcements, and social outreach, the message will be amplified nationwide to encourage responsible waste disposal and reinforce the importance of keeping Saint Vincent and the Grenadines clean during the Vincy Mas season and beyond.
