Swimmers from Black Sands Swim Squad (BSSS) took part in the SVG Gallagher National Swimming Championships held on 22nd to 26th September 2021.
A total of twenty-two National records were broken at the meet, fifteen of which were broken by BSSS swimmers.
In the boys 11-12 age group, Matthew Ballah broke a total of 5 National records:
50m Freestyle in a time of 26.36
100m Freestyle in a time of 58.07
50m Backstroke in a time of 30.53
50m Butterfly in a time of 28.84
100m IM in a time of 1:07.79
Brandon George in the boys 13-14 age group broke two National records:
200m Backstroke in a time of 2:23.59
100m IM in a time of 1:03.76
Eltonte Leonard, swimming in the boys 13-14 age group also broke two National records:
50m Butterfly in a time of 27.07
100m Butterfly in a time of 1:01.69
In the girls 9-10 age group, Eltonique Leonard broke two National records:
200m Breaststroke in a time of 3:17.90
200m IM in a time of 2:53.05
Kennice Greene swimming in the girls 13-14 age group broke two National records:
100m Freestyle in a time of 1:00.41
100m Butterfly in a time of 1:06.86
Mya DeFreitas swimming in the girls 15-16 age group broke one National record:
400m Freestyle in a time of 4:41.18
Tia Gun-Munro also swimming in the girls 15-16 age group broke one National record:
200m Breaststroke in a time of 2:56.23

BSSS Head Coach Kyle Dougan said “the results are a great demonstration of what our athletes can achieve when they put in the hard work in training. BSSS has recently completed a high intensity training camp, so it is very satisfying to see so many National records being broken and personal best times swam on the back of the camp. I am very proud that BSSS swimmers won the trophy for the top performing club.”
