The Embassy of Mexico to the Eastern Caribbean States is thrilled to share with the people of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Season´s Greetings and an extremely prosperous New Year. The Embassy is elated to be sharing another year developing stronger ties and fostering cooperation in the hopes of promoting the development of St Vincent and the Grenadines and the Greater Caribbean region as a whole.

Mexico´s Honorary Consul in St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Mr. Joel Providence stated, “The festive season in Mexico commenced on December 12th and will run until January 6th. The season started with the celebration of the Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe and will be ending with “the Epiphany” (Day of the Three Kings).”

He continued, “One of the most sought after traditions during the season for Mexicans, especially children, is the piñata. The tradition dates back to before Cristopher Columbus arrived to the Americas and was used by the Aztecs to give offerings. The Franciscan missionaries were however responsible for popularizing the piñata and making it a staple of every Christmas party in Mexico. The Piñata has now reached all corners of the world.”

Mr Providence concluded by confirming that closer relations will indeed be forged between the governments and peoples of Mexico and of St Vincent and the Grenadines during 2017 and he extends special season’s greetings to nationals of Mexico resident in this country.
