Rickey Singh, considered the dean of Caribbean journalists, has endorsed Gonsalves’s position on the hypocrisy of Washington.
Read Singh’s Correspondence To Gonsalves Below.
I read with admiration, your letter to the Prime Minister of Belize and sitting Chairman of CARICOM, Hon John Briceno.
I strongly endorse your position that our Heads of State must make a unified statement to collectively reject the proposal by the United States to exclude Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela from the Summit of the Americas.
I think it would be an act of betrayal for any Head of Government from our Caribbean Community to participate in this coming Summit of the Americas.
It would be not only disgraceful but simply unforgivable for any Head of State (or indeed any designated Foreign Minister), to assert a concession on behalf of the peoples they represent, by participating.
Regrettably, I am sending you this note while I am no longer functioning as an active journalist of CARICOM. However, I would you like to make known my full alignment with your well-documented rationale on the large principles that are at stake.
Please feel free to share my support and I am hopeful that your letter has been made available to every government – and peoples of the community.
Rickey R Singh
