Yacht-related crimes appear to be on the rise in St. Vincent and the Grenadines once more.
On December 1, cash, phones, chargers, and small electronics were stolen from a yacht anchored in Cumberland Bay on the island’s northwestern coast.
The monohull yacht anchored in Cumberland Bay was boarded on December 1 while the owners slept onboard, according to information obtained by the St. Vincent Times.
They discovered that cash, phones, and small electronics had been stolen when they awoke. The Coast Guard and police were notified and came to the scene.
On November 27th, a yacht anchored at Princess Margaret Beach was robbed of electronics and timepieces; this was the fourth theft in Bequia waters in the previous month.
In their haste to flee, the thieves abandoned their personal belongings, which included a phone, an identification card, and two (2) 6- to 8-inch knives, on November 27th.
Minister of Tourism Carlos James stated on the WEFM Issue at Hand Program on Sunday, November 7, that there has been a decrease in yacht-related crimes.
At the time, James explained that this was due to increased security in the country, such as the purchase of the Captain Hugh Mulzac-class vessel.
According to CSSN’s annual report, which was recently released, SVG has fallen to the bottom of the table when it comes to yacht crimes in the Caribbean.
“After six years in the top countries list, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) is absent this year,” according to the report.
