Dry season affects water systems in Grenada
Grenada is suffering drought conditions, with 12 local water systems on the island among the hardest afflicted, with some places experiencing severe reductions in production.
According to the National Water and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA), the Annandale and Les Avocat water systems have been particularly hard hit, with production dropping by 40%.
According to the report, this has resulted in water shortages in some places and placed pressure on other water systems to meet demand. NAWASA warns the public that the situation is projected to worsen as the drought continues, with some water systems facing increasingly severe issues in the coming weeks unless considerable rainfall occurs.
According to data gathering, the Annandale Water System, Grenada’s largest, is currently experiencing a shortage of about 1 million gallons, affecting water supplies to the southern portion of the island.
While valve controls and water truck deliveries are in place to handle the situation, they are insufficient to mitigate the impact of the shortfall.
During this difficult time, NAWASA is urging everyone to manage their water supply and utilize it properly.
