Farmers here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines have received an order to supply four 40ft containers of quality Vincentian dasheen to the United States, every two weeks.
Minister of Agriculture and Representative for South Central Windward, Hon. Saboto Caesar says “there is a huge demand for dasheen and our farmers are working with the Ministry of Agriculture to ensure our supplies are increased”.
The first container of dasheen will be shipped to the US this weekend. Last week a trial shipment sent to the participating supermarkets for assessment included breadfruit and turmeric, among other produce.
The Agriculture Minister says the combined supply from dasheen farmers around the country is expected to meet the demand for the tuber in 2018.
