“If you lose sections of the highway, lets a say Shipping Bay area it means you now have to take the detour go through Biabou up to Simon and through Mesopotamia valley to get back to town, such commute would be on very narrow roads, and steep mountain roads”.
This according to Chief Engineer Brent Bailey who sat down with News784 to look at road conditions, coastal zone problems and new infrastructural projects.
Coastal erosion is severely undermining portions of the road in the Shipping Bay area.
Bailey said the severity of the problem would affect entire communities from Biabou all the way up to Fancy, not only that he says, it is the section of society where poverty is highest.
“ You are also cutting off tourism earnings that can be derived from those parts of the country”.
“ For instance, cruise ship visitors needing to view our coastline will now have to go through the Mesopotamia Valley, so maintaining our coastal connectivity is critical for our long-term development.
Bailey told News784 that those are areas of focus for this office especially those areas where citizens can be potentially cut off.
