Jada Wins WEFM’s Youth Summer Reading Challenge

St. Vincent Girl’s High School student Jada Chambers is the winner of WFM’s 2017 annual Youth Summer Reading Challenge.

The Summer Reading Challenge, which is into its fourth year, was held from July 24 to 26, 2017, and saw the finalists being trained in basic radio broadcasting.

Chambers earned 20 points out of 25, to take the top spot from a field of five competitors. She also received the Highest Distinction Award.

Second place went to Lanique Cupid of the Thomas Saunders Secondary who earned 19.16 points out of 25 and received the award of Distinction.

The training sought to build more confident readers by exposing the participants to training in Fluency, Confidence, Voice and Diction. It was also designed to expose them to careers in Media.

The other participants were Kiandra McDowall of Buccament Bay Secondary who received the award of Excellence, Davanne Thomas of Bishop College Kingstown who received the award of Merit; and Camesha Bowens of Dr J.P. Eustace Memorial Secondary School who received a Special Staff Award.
