By Ernesto Cooke (News784) – The government of St Vincent and the Grenadines received 24 pieces of Agricultural Machinery on Monday 28th August 2017.

The donation was made possible through the kind generosity of the Peoples the Republic Of China on Taiwan.

Since the first agreement on agriculture in 1982 with the ROC,  St Vincent has benefited from the introduction of innovative cultural systems, this according to Minister of Agriculture Sabato Caesar.

Caesar noted that there has been significant investments in Orange Hill, these include the plant tissue lab, the vegetable seedling nursery, the agro processing lab, and farmers Co- Operatives with the help of Taiwan ICDF program.

The tissue culture lab since 1995 has produced more than a million plantlets, including flowers and food crops.

Caesar said in 2014 the world food base theme was centered around the idea of establishing co operatives throughout the country.

Caesar said the Co-Operatives stretch from North Leeward, Rabbaca, South Rivers, Greggs, Mt Pleasant, New Prospect and South Windward, all of whom would benefit from the machinery given by the ROC.

The Minister encouraged the Co-Operatives to put the machinery to good use and noted that the ministry would work closely with the cooperatives to ensure their smooth operation.

Caesar said he believes when the machinery hits the soil in SVG, there would be a further increase in production here in the state.
