Former PM Gonsalves

Gonsalves To Skip Parliament Opening Due to Security Concerns

Former Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves is expected to skip the opening of parliament today over what he cited as security concerns.

Gonsalves had previously stated that the first sitting of parliament is ceremonial; however, in a video posted to his Facebook, Gonsalves stated that there are matters of security arrangements to be dealt with.

The former PM also stated that the two appointed senators, Carlos James and Keisal Peters, will not attend due to varying reasons.

“Keisal is not here; she is with mom, who is recovering from an operation in New York. I am not sure I will be at the first sitting of parliament, the formal opening and the oath of allegiance. Neither am I sure if Carlos will be there.” There are some security matters to be worked out,” Gonsalves said.

Both James and Peters served in the previous government as ministers.
