Prime Minister Gonsalves said he would like to see more business being done with Taiwan. On Monday Gonsalves said he has been speaking with Taiwan about private sector investment in St Vincent.
Gonsalves said although SVG has diplomatic relations with Taiwan, there is more investment within the state from the Peoples Republic Of China.
“That’s an area that we need to improve, if you take an investment like Chinese restaurants, I don’t know any of the operators to be a national of Taiwan”.
Gonsalves said we could do with a good restaurant from Taiwan, and he is hoping for such as the country build its tourism product.
“I expect Taiwan to buy a lot of fruits and vegetables from our farmers”.
The Prime Minister stated that there are opportunities for manufacturing, Agro processing, information technology, along with investment in hotel construction.
“We have a lot of good lands on the mainland, and in the Grenadines, the state itself owns significant portions of land, and we can enter into partnerships with investors from Taiwan, who wants to build hotels here on the island”.
Gonsalves said SVG had been a friend of Taiwan since 1981, a reliable friend, and as such he would like to see some of that island business people come to the state and invest.
A determined effort must be made for investment Gonsalves said.
