The St Vincent government has announced an expansion program and remedial work for the Argyle International Airport. This work is planned for 2026 through 2028.
A study was commissioned to address issues with the runway and management has sent soil samples to be tested, with results expected by late January or early February to guide the development of the airport.
Prime Minister Friday during his address on the budget estimates mentioned that the facility needs “enlargement” to accommodate development and increased traffic.
To meet increasing demands at the AIA (and the new port in Kingstown), the Ministry of National Security created six new immigration officer positions.
In addition to infrastructure, the Prime Minister noted an investment in human resources for regulatory oversight.
Under the Ministry of Tourism, the government allocated a position for one training officer for the Civil Aviation Department.
The Prime Minister stated that while this is a single position, it is expected to assist the ministry in the critical work of promoting and developing the tourism sector.
