Assistant Marine Operations Manager

We are seeking a highly experienced Assistant Marine Operations Manager to join our team at our premier luxury private islands in Antigua and Barbuda that include a world-class resort, fine dining restaurants, several private residences, and a conservatory.  This role is responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient daily operation of all marine vessels under JBIC’s purview. It involves a mix of administrative, technical, and safety-focused tasks, bridging the gap between shore-based management and vessel crew.  Will also deputize for the Director of Security.

SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations Management Support – assist the Director of Security with managing the daily operations of the unit including vessel movements, monitoring, maintenance and emergency repairs, cargo operations, and liaison with key internal stakeholders.

Team Leadership Support – support the Director of Security with preparing fortnightly schedules, payroll support, performance management, and training and development to enhance team capabilities and support operations.

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management – assist the Director of Security to ensure operations comply with local maritime laws and regulations, environmental guidelines and internal policies to mitigate against risks.

Emergency Response – act as a crucial link between the vessel and shore-based management, emergency services and regulatory bodies in response to maritime incidents. Lead the investigation into accidents and/or injuries involving marine vessels with the support of the security department.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role or managing a commercial ferry operation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Valid Boat Master’s license – level 2 is preferred.
  • Good understanding maritime operations, safety management and risk assessment.
  • Good knowledge of Caribbean and Antiguan waterways and conditions.
  • Experience managing a department with at least 20 employees.
  • Demonstrated advanced-level computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Experience managing in a unionized environment preferred.
