Grenadines 3×3 Basketball Competition a Major Success in Bequia
The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Basketball Federation (SVGBF) – in collaboration with the Bequia Basketball Association (BBA) – successfully hosted the exciting Grenadines 3×3 Basketball Competition on Friday, May 8th and Saturday, May 9th at the Clive Tannis Hard Court in Bequia.
The two-day tournament brought together 8 teams from across the Grenadines. Participating teams included 1 team from Mayreau, 1 team from Union Island and 6 from Bequia.
Friday night’s action featured an intense round-robin format. The competition continued on Saturday with quarterfinal matchups leading into two thrilling semifinals: Court Kings vs Sonics and Ashton Vipers (Union Island) vs Blazin Ballers. Court Kings and Ashton Vipers advanced to the championship final. In a closely contested game, Ashton Vipers emerged victorious, cementing their status as the dominant 3×3 team of 2026. Their latest triumph follows their earlier championship win at the Calliaqua Hard Court in March.
SVGBF 3×3 Coordinator, Wayne Williams, and BBA President Sabrina Mitchell both expressed satisfaction with the strong crowd turnout and enthusiastic participation from teams across the islands. While similar to traditional 5-on-5 basketball, 3×3 basketball demands a faster pace, quick decision-making and a unique skillset that can challenge players unfamiliar with the format. The Federation remains committed to expanding the sport locally in line with FIBA recommendations, recognising 3×3 basketball as the world’s number one urban team sport. Another competition in Bequia is tentatively scheduled for later this month, and plans for a Southern Grenadines tournament are underway.
The Federation congratulates all participating teams and thanks the supporters, organisers and volunteers who contributed to another successful basketball event.
