Outspoken commentator Jumo Thomas has issued a scathing critique of the Massy Stores branch located at Stoney Grounds, labeling the supermarket a “dump” and urging health officials to intervene.

Speaking on the “OMG” radio program, Thomas expressed shock at the condition of the store, highlighting a “massive deterioration” compared to when it was previously run by Ken Boyea and his son, Luke. Following a recent visit to the supermarket, Thomas detailed significant sanitation issues, noting that the floors are dirty, cracked, and blackened with dirt, while the food counters are also unclean.

“I wonder what’s the last time health inspectors went to that store,” Thomas remarked, emphasizing that the facility should potentially be closed. He called on authorities to immediately visit the supermarket, arguing that they would find the location unfit for selling food. According to Thomas, the cleanest part of the store appears to be the checkout area, which he suggested reflects a primary focus on collecting money rather than maintaining proper store standards.

Thomas sharply questioned the management’s reasoning for allowing the Stoney Grounds location to deteriorate, pointing out that other Massy branches in Kingstown and Arnos Vale do not suffer from the same unsanitary conditions. He speculated whether the company’s management assumes they are dealing with a “different clientele” at the Stony Grounds location.

In his broadcast, Thomas issued a strong call to action for both the supermarket’s management and the public. He stated that any self-respecting store owner would immediately undertake rehabilitative work to improve the store’s appearance and conditions. Furthermore, he encouraged Vincentian shoppers to be more self-respecting by protesting the conditions or taking their business to locally-owned stores that prioritize their health and well-being.
