Fast-Moving Tropical Wave Impacts Region

A weather advisory is currently in effect for St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) as a Caribbean tropical wave brings heavy showers and disrupted conditions to the islands.

Authorities are urging all residents and motorists to remain highly alert, particularly those in areas prone to flash flooding and landslides, as well as communities situated near rivers and streams.

The weather system, identified as a Caribbean tropical wave located along 63W and south of 16N, is moving rapidly westward at a speed of approximately 20 knots. Forecasters have observed scattered moderate and isolated strong convection associated with this system between 11N and 13.5N, spanning from 58W to 66W.

Local impacts are already being felt across the territory. According to radar imagery from the Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) taken at 7:30 a.m. on June 16, 2026, widespread showers are actively sweeping across mainland St. Vincent. The rainfall has resulted in a significant decrease in visibility at the Argyle International Airport (AIA).

The SVG Meteorological Services is actively monitoring the developing weather conditions and will continue to provide updates as the system progresses. All residents are strongly advised to keep up to date with the latest information and safety instructions disseminated by the agency.
