Many residents across mainland St. Vincent experienced an unexpected disruption in electricity supply early Wednesday morning following a wildlife-related incident.

According to a statement from St. Vincent Electricity Services Limited (VINLEC), an unexpected line fault occurred at approximately 1:15 am on June 24, 2026. The fault caused a break in the electricity connection between the Lowmans Bay and Cane Hall Power Stations.

Immediate investigations by VINLEC deployment teams confirmed that the disruption was caused by wildlife making contact with energized electrical equipment. While the company noted that such wildlife-related incidents are rare, the fault resulted in power interruptions for various areas across the island. VINLEC clarified that the event did not lead to a total island-wide outage, as supply was maintained in several other regions.

Following preliminary inspections and system checks, technical teams began the restoration process. Power was progressively returned to customers throughout the morning, with full restoration completed by 5:51 am.

VINLEC issued a formal apology to its customers for the inconvenience caused by the outage. The utility provider commended its technical staff for working “tirelessly” to stabilize the network and restore power in the shortest time possible.

“We remain committed to delivering a safe and reliable supply and will continue investing in the enhancement of our infrastructure to better serve all customers,” the company stated.
