The Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has issued a heartfelt statement expressing profound sadness and solidarity with the people of Venezuela following a catastrophic earthquake.

Addressing the tragedy, the Prime Minister noted that the devastating seismic event has already claimed at least 164 lives, with authorities fearing that the death toll will continue to rise. The earthquake has also resulted in a significant number of injuries and widespread damage to property across the affected regions.

In the address, the Prime Minister drew poignant parallels between Venezuela’s current suffering and the recent hardships faced by St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Having recently endured the catastrophic impacts of volcanic eruptions and hurricanes, the island nation is intimately aware of the devastating toll that natural disasters can take on a country’s citizens and infrastructure.

“During such times of crisis, it’s critically important that friends stand by you,” the Prime Minister stated, emphasizing the strong bilateral ties between the two nations. The address highlighted a history of mutual support, specifically recalling that Venezuela had stood by St. Vincent and the Grenadines during their own recent periods of crisis.

Reaching out with “hearts and minds” to the Venezuelan people, the Prime Minister offered thoughts and prayers for the nation. The statement concluded with a message of hope for the ongoing rescue and relief efforts, trusting that lives currently in jeopardy will be saved and that Venezuela’s recovery process will be both rapid and complete.
