Today, July 1st, marks the somber second anniversary of Hurricane Barl, a storm remembered for the devastation and horror it unleashed upon the country.

The southern Grenadines bore the brunt of the storm’s impact, suffering catastrophic losses as homes, lives, livelihoods, and property were destroyed.

As the nation continues its ongoing process of recovery, the government has announced a proactive step toward future preparedness.

A new “recovery and resilience project” will be rolled out very soon. This forthcoming initiative is designed with a dual purpose: to continue aiding in the long-term recovery process and to better equip the country to handle any potential storms during the current hurricane season.

Further details regarding the specifics of the project are expected to be shared with the public shortly.

In a recent address reflecting on the anniversary, the government emphasized the shared responsibility of disaster readiness.

While assuring the public that the government will do its part to ensure national preparedness, a strong plea was also made to citizens. The public is being urged to take all necessary precautions and ensure they are as prepared as they can be for the ongoing hurricane season.
