The community of Layou gathered in spirit this week to celebrate a monumental milestone as Mrs. Carmina Hinds officially marked her 103rd birthday. On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, the Hon. Conroy Huggins, Minister of Fisheries, Marine and Land Conservation, Climate Resilience, and Area Representative for Central Leeward, paid a special visit to Mrs. Hinds and her family to honor the occasion.
During the visit, Minister Huggins extended warm greetings on behalf of the Government and the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He highlighted Mrs. Hinds’ remarkable longevity and her significant contributions to the Layou community over the past century. The Minister noted that Mrs. Hinds is currently the oldest known resident of Layou and is believed to be the oldest living person within the entire Central Leeward constituency.
“He congratulated her on reaching this extraordinary milestone and wished her continued good health, happiness, and God’s richest blessings,” the official report stated.
Mrs. Hinds, who remains remarkably independent in many of her daily activities, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to God for the blessing of reaching 103 years. She also took the opportunity to publicly thank her daughter, Mrs. Samuel, for the dedicated love and support she provides.
Reflecting on her mother’s life, Mrs. Samuel spoke of Mrs. Hinds’ unwavering commitment to raising her children. She used the occasion to send a message to the wider community, encouraging families to cherish their elderly parents and care for them with the same devotion they received during their own upbringing.
The celebration served as a tribute not only to Mrs. Hinds’ personal resilience but also to the invaluable role that senior citizens continue to play in the nation’s communities.
