The agricultural sector in St. Vincent and the Grenadines has received a significant boost following the official handing over of a processing and packaging facility at Langley Park. This new infrastructure, which focuses on leafy vegetables and root crops, was developed as part of the Republic of India SME Development Project.
High Commissioner of the Republic of India, H.E. Subhash P. Gupta, presented the facilities to Hon. Israel Bruce, the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Transformation. To mark the completion of the project, the two officials unveiled a commemorative plaque during the ceremony.
The project is the result of a US$1 million investment by the Government of India. These funds were utilized not only for the Langley Park facility but also to upgrade existing agro-processing hubs located at Lauders and La Croix. The primary goals of this investment are to strengthen national food security and increase the value addition of local agricultural products.
The handing over ceremony was attended by various government officials, including the Minister of Social Welfare and Community Empowerment, Hon. Shevern John, as well as farmers from the surrounding communities. This initiative reflects a continued and productive partnership between India and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, focusing on advancing economic growth and agricultural development.
