The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) highlighted the country’s technological achievements and its longstanding partnership with St. Vincent and the Grenadines during a screening of the documentary A Chip Odyssey at the Russell’s Cinema on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
The event brought together students, government officials and other guests to explore Taiwan’s rise as a global leader in semiconductor technology, while also celebrating the close diplomatic ties between the two nations ahead of the 45th anniversary of their relationship in August.
H.E. Fiona Huei-Chun Fan, Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, said A Chip Odyssey chronicles Taiwan’s transformation from humble beginnings into a world leader in technological innovation.
“However, technological success has little meaning if it cannot be shared with our friends and diplomatic allies,” Ambassador Fan said. “I am delighted to see many of our partners from the ITSD and the SVG Police Force with us today. Beyond public safety, our cooperation has also extended to smart agriculture through the Young Farmer Plant Project in Orange Hill and the digitalisation of health care services, helping to improve lives and strengthen national resilience.”
Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Innovation, Digital Transformation and Information, Hon. Philip Jackson, reflected that the documentary was about far more than computer chips.
“We’re here to celebrate our partner, Taiwan, and in August we’ll be celebrating the 45th anniversary of our relationship,” Jackson said. “Forty-five years of friendship is something we should celebrate. It shows that, more than 50 years ago, Taiwan’s leadership took a strategic look at the global landscape and made decisions that shaped the country’s future.”
The screening also marked Ambassador Fan’s third anniversary as the Republic of China (Taiwan) Ambassador to St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
